Great Start
A huge thank you for arriving on time every day. We are off to a great start. We have been busy learning school procedures and routines. Our classroom goals are:
- Treat People Right
- Do the Right Thing
We created a class poster in which each student signed with a promise to do their best every day. Positive behavior in the classroom is a pathway to success for all. Please consider reinforcing these goals at home as well. It is an expectation that directions are followed the first time they are given. We are also learning that there are consequences for not following directions.
Blue Take Home Folders
Thank you for checking folders each day and looking over all papers sent home. Please note that the folders are marked with "Keep at Home" and "Return to School" on the inside pockets. All papers are meant to be kept at home unless indicated on the paper or those requiring a signature. Taking time to discuss your child's completed work will let students know their effort and learning is valued and appreciated. Work that is sent home should be complete. If you are noticing incomplete work it is a good idea to spend time completing work at home with your child and encouraging them to focus and work the whole time at school.
Reading
The students have enjoyed several read alouds this week. Some of our favorites include:
- Pete the Cat
- Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
- David Goes to School
- The Pout Pout Fish Goes to School
- Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?
I encourage you to have your child tell you about their favorite stories at school.
Reading skills taught:
- Letters and sounds Aa, Bb, and Cc
- Rhyming Words
- Syllables (clapping out words)
Math
Students counted the number of letters in their name and learned that numbers have a number word to match each number. They have also created and counted sets of objects to 10.
Writing
When writing their name students should begin to use a capital at the beginning and all other letters should be lower case. It is expected that students learn to write their first and last name without a model.
Scholastic Book Order
Students are bringing home book order forms. Scholastic offers quality children's literature at very reasonable prices. Reading at home should be part of your daily routine. With each book ordered through Scholastic, bonus points are earned which we use to acquire FREE books for our classroom. The September book order offers a generous amount of bonus points. If you are interested in ordering you may complete the order form and send a check made out to Scholastic or use the online code MG4T2 to purchase by Friday, September 11th. Thank you for supporting reading!!!
Homework
Look for homework folders to come home on Friday, September 11th.
